Oil pressure on my TMP gearbox is a little low and I suspect it may soon need an overhaul. The cost of sending this back to TMP would by £500 for labour alone. I understand also that while gearbox parts are available they are not all
for the reduction box. I know that other gearboxes are available for not much more than
that although there would obviously be some issues with fitting to my Perkins 4108 and its prop shaft.
There is a TMP gearbox currently on eBay which the seller claims he is 'reliably informed' is unused. It would be tempting to think that it could be a worthwhile speculative buy.
he says that the box has a 2:1 reduction but the circular drive plate makes me think it may be a 3:1 as my 2:1 has the 'two bolt' drive plate.
What does the panel think about this,? in general terms is it better long term to accept that replacing, eventually, with another type of ( cheaper ) is the way to go. More specifically if an 'expert' could look at the eBay item
( I cant manage a link but its under TMP gearbox) and see if they think its a 2:1 or 3:1 reduction I would be most grateful.
Thanks all.
