I know this horse has been flogged to death in the past and I have already tried a back search including recommended cross referencing sites.
In the past when I had a VP 2003 the local chandlery kept alternative make filters for this engine on the shelf and these were also easily available from motor factors so I used to keep a bag with 2 or 3 of each on board, I sometimes had to change fuel filters frequently and the oil about twice a year but in marine terms the cost was peanuts and I could buy filters almost anywhere.
My latest engine is a Volvo Penta D1-30 ( a marinized Japanese Perkins) a 2005-6 replacement for the 2030 now very common in newer boats. My local VP service centre follows Volvo's policy of not keeping spares in stock but calling them off individually ( 24 hr delivery here takes 3 days and is very expensive). I have VP part numbers for the two fuel filters and for the oil filter (I have found two different numbers for the latter) I can find both types of fuel filters on line from Baldwin, Fleetguard etc. all at about 25-30% of the VP filter prices but can not find an alternative oil filter , I was hoping to order a job lot of about a dozen or so filters from one source to last a couple of years so that I could change them when the notion took me.
In a thread a couple of years ago a couple of posters were talking of setting up a database of alternative filters for common marine engines but I presume this never happened. A VP labelled spin on fuel filter is £17.50, the Baldwin labelled equivalent is £4.40
Has anyone found a suitable alternative oil filter for this engine, it looks quite commonplace and I suppose it might be best to order a single Volvo one and then take it down the street to the local car repair man for identification.
Also, are there many versions of the common CAV type primary fuel filter/water separator or do they all use the same cartridge and gaskets, mine is labelled Volvo Penta but looks the same as all the others.
