After 5 years & 30,000NM our 4 x 140ah TUDOR Heavy Duty service batteries (B-19908-EE / 1R29JW79X) have finally given up the ghost and we are struggling to source like for like replacements. It's almost as if they never existed even though the boat & batteries are less than 5 y.o.

I am looking for like for like replacements as 1) they were good batteries 2) because of their dimensions & 3) their terminal positions & connections.

Has anybody been able to source similar batteries?
Has anyone had a similar problem?
Does anyone have any advice on alternative marques (good ones, absolute no-nos etc)?

Appreciate your help.

You certainly got a lorra miles out of the old batteries!

If your situation is like mine you need batteries of the same size more than the exact same amperage, with posts at one end etc.

I found mine in Holland 3 years ago in a general battery dealer, but I stuck to conventional construction to keep costs down, reasoning that if they faded for some reason, I would not be too downcast. It worked...they're still pulling well. I didn't know the battery brand name from squat - what's in a name these days - but the deep cycling/ heavy duty description overcame that concern.

And a sound retailer doesn't sell batteries that bounce.

My original batteries were Tudor, but not the same as yours, and gave out after a couple of years. I replaced them with cheap Unipart heavy-duty batteries and they've just done six seasons as service batteries, so I'm inclined to think it doesn't matter much as long as you care for them properly.

Thanks guys....I have broadened my search for other marques but am now also struggling to find any 140ah batteries that will fit - boats! Will carry on looking but you've already helped me find 2 or 3 new sites that I hadn't found...so big thank you.

So what size are the batteries? And what's the terminal configuration? There must be some suitable alternatives around.

The main problem is the height....

[/ QUOTE ]You're right about that! The Sonnenschein SL115 is the right size, but it's v expensive.

Ummm $268 each........ if only they had lasted a few months longer (I'm leaving for Sweden in April)......anyhow sounds like it's a choice between those, like for like replacements (only from Sweden it seems) or Varta Semi Tractions.......

....I'm just going to re-measure my existing ones ONE MORE TIME!

Thanks for your help everybody, you've been a big help.
Cheers
