If the vinyl is still on, in tact, then use a hair dryer to gently warm the vinyl and only lift from the surface as you heat. You may be lucky to be able to remove in one piece, the downside is, the vinyl can stretch, so dont pull too hard. Use the white spirit (less dangerous than petrol, cheaper than WD40) to clean off the remaining glue residue.

Edit; Flaming is just about right with that, so if your crew want a souvenir then photograph the sticker square on with a decent camera (not an iPhone) and I can print it out for you/him to size on our large format printer.

Brilliant... and thank you... :)

I have part B of the plan.. to stick it onto Greaseproof paper...

Part A of the plan was to wait until summer when the hull might be warmer anyway then use the hair dryer..

I can see pre-part A now being a fan heater and a small tent around the bow...

Well the results of your suggestions can be reported. After planning to bring most of the suggested solvents I left in a hurry for the boat today and forgot the lot . Net the winner of the suggestions was wd40 and my old Rya membership card . Worked a treat though had to apply it a couple of times and finish with a cloth . Result it a perfectly clean hull thanks a lot
