I used Gorilla Tape to cover the portlight windows with clear plastic whilst having the portlights refurbished and whilst they are now looking pretty nice I have a sticky tape residue where the tape was around each window. What is the best way to get rid of it.

I did hear that using acetone was an option but how do you apply it???

Regards

If the portlights have plastic glazing be careful not to get acetone on them !

best not to get too much on you either ............ particularly dangerous in the eyes!

I'd try "Sticky stuff remover" and white spirit before resorting to acetone

Acetone can dissolve some plastics.

Try WD40 first, worked surprisingly well on the residue from cheapo masking tape..

When I replaced my windows, IIRC, White Spirit and a good rub removed most of the tape adhesive residue.
I might have used acetone for the most stubborn bits, can't really remember though.

I usually try soapy water, paraffin, petrol, nitromors and finally acetone in order but as others have said be careful of damaging the glazing if its not glass.

I used parcel tape for a similar purpose. That need a hammer and chisel to get it off again!

Autoglym Intensive Tar Temover.

It's the stuff they give you with the Westerly headlining kits to remove surplus glue. Not as powerful as acetone but harmless to most surfaces.

I use white spirit with duct tape, but have no experience of gorilla tape. (It's also surprising what residues and suchlike baby wipes will shift in my experience, given that they are for delicate skin.)

For removing tape residue from fibreglass and similar surfaces I use something which is always on board... diesel. Applied on a rough rag it has, so far, never failed me.

IPA, not the beer, isopropyl alcohol. Or contact cleaner which is mostly IPA. Or the sticky label remover spray. And as suggested before WD40 seems to be good at removing sticky stuff. But is it really mostly white spirit? I think it has more lubrication than that.
