This probably sounds like a stupid question but I need to replace the fuel sender on my boat. It is inserted into the tank via a 5cm hole and on withdrawing it the float arm does not allow the sender to clear the tank.

I am doing something wrong or is there some trick to this?

Probably won't lift straight up out but they usually come out with a bit of careful rotation / twisting in one direction or another.

It went in - so must come out !

5cms is very small sender hole though. Most are more like 8 - 10cms diameter. But even at that size - you often have to lift and then twist or lay it over so that it gets through the hole. Bit like getting the settee past that single doorway ... get one part through then twist to get remainder.

Just out of interest - I had a machine with tank that had a 'double' flange. Small flange carried the pipe, larger flange bolted to tank. Is it possible that you may be removing the wrong plate ? Is there a larger plate this is bolted to that you may be able to remove ? Silly question I know.
