I need to remove the water lubricated rubber bearing (25 mm shaft) on our long keeled sail boat. I have done this work before on another sailboat. Then I splitted the bearing with a saw, however it was a timeconsuming job. Is it a better way to do this ? I would be greatful for any advice.

Try rigging up a puller with a length of threaded stud and approriate sized washers. ie: washers that will bear on the bearing shell and not the stern tube. Don't forget about any locking bolts!

Hope this helps

If the bearing is in a P bracket.
Take a length of pipe cut length ways in half with a knocking lump of metal welded at one. Pipe should be big enough outer diameter to bear on the brass or plastic outer shell of the bearing.
Make sure you remove the locking rub screws, take the prop off and tap out - bingo.
Took us 45mins last year to change bearing including prop off and prop on again, but I carry all the kit on board having been caught out by lobster lines and fleece jackets ripping the bonded rubber from the outer shell before.
