Hello, I'm resurrecting a marinised Yanmar 3TNV, so not totally "normal" but I would imagine it broadly follows the rules WRT the way it's put together... It has, what looks like a TMC40 on it (upside down*) and I need to sort this out & inspect the innards and a couple of the bell housing bolts have sheared off, leaving not much and I need to drill these out.
I've removed all the bolts & the bell housing is now loose and wiggles. What holds the whole assembly on? I'm reluctant to just pull it as it doesn't seem to want to come - is there likely to be anything else (beyond the bell housing bolts) holding it on? . (NB, pic is how it arrived - all bolts in question have been removed). Thanks

Coincidentally I refitted my TMC 40 box to a beta 20 yesterday. As you say it's splined and just needs a good firm pull, nothing fancy at all., assuming you have not missed any bolts of course, but if its moving slightly that's highly unlikely. Whilst engines need tlc sometimes brute force is the answer!
