In have a ray54e VHF fixed at the nav station and want a remote mike at the helm. What is the best way to do this?

You need a compatible Raymarine remote handset, which will be a wired connection. As the 54E is a discontinued model, you may find it difficult to get a suitable handset. It would be worth asking Raymarine whether one of their current remote handsets would work with the 54E.

Ok cheers. I looked on their website and couldn't find anything compatable. I will call them.

Best of luck, but since the 54E isn't designed for a remote mic, AFAIK, I can't see how any handset could display necessary information such as channel no. etc.

You're right! Seems the 54E is one of the few which can't take a remote. Best solution then is to sell it on eBay and get a newer radio.
The 55E is almost identical in size and can take a remote. But a Standard Horizon would be cheaper.

Alternatively, just cut the existing handset cable and extend it!

It has a very basic handset, with no display, so functionality would be very limited.

Ok, good plan, I will buy new and sell old on ebay. Maybe the B&G h50 and v50.

The B&G V50 is the same set as the Simrad RS35, but is priced higher because it's B&G branded!

Can't help with your query, but a remote handset at the helm is one of these things that once you've got it, you love it!
