Remote controlled light

I know this was asked a few years ago but hoping there might be some different options now.

Would like a deck light over the stern (catamaran) to make boarding in the dark safer.

Remote controlled so it can be turned on whilst in the dinghy.

I do not want an anchor light!

Anyone use something like this?

Why not a light of your choice , and one of them cheap fob controlled devices off of ebay etc?
This kind of thing, I realise not waterproof, but I am sure if you look they are available?

I'm sure it wouldn't stand deep immersion, but the cheapos that I use for general switching and the apilot control have surprisingly well sealed fobs. More than splashproof.

Use LEDs and just leave it on. power draw is piffling.

we have one of the simple eBay remotes wired to our deck light so we can switch on before climbing aboard and a small led lamp in the cockpit wired into this so when stern moored can climb on easily, worked for the last 5 years, keyphob never been an issue

So do we and the person with the head torch can switch on the Bimini light if they need to but they mostly don’t as we have a cheapo solar powered set of tiny white lights (on an non-flashing setting!) across the arch of the Bimini to help us find our boat after a good meal out.

I’ve gone past our own boat 3 times and gone to the wrong bit of the anchorage and been politely told I’m coming up to the wrong boat. It was a straight choice - avoid getting totally blotto every night before getting in the dinghy or make our boat appearance more unusual. Now I wake up on our own boat every time - not always in the cabin.

If you stick some 3M diamond grade reflective tape on a few places on your boat, then a torch will show you where your boat is. Plenty for sale on eBay.

I can’t find my torch. I left it on my head but I don’t know where that is now. Lights are pretty I will go towards them.

I have a stern light, two spreader lights, a boom light and a deck light. I leave them all on dusk to dawn. Serves as a find my boat light, deter the thieves light, help get on board light, an extra anchor light a nice background light for the evening and a night light when getting up for a wee. All that for just a few percent extra on the energy budget. It’s a good deal I think.

I think I've struck lucky. The French builders of our Gib'Sea place a blue reflective strip along the hull. I now know why, always wondered why other boats did not have this easy identifier.

I have an LED light that can be hung in the rigging as an anchor light that can be switched on / off remotely from distance. It's intended for dark anchorages when switching off and on can help locate the boat - a problem we had once one very rainy night. Anyway ... It wiled away some time making it ...

Where do you keep the relay switch? Is it line of sight for best range or inside out of the weather?
