Relative newbie - advice on small yachts / gaining more experience, etc

Just a wee update to this thread I started months ago...

My 'new to me' boat was lifted in at the start of the week after a good few months of nights and weekends spent doing lots of jobs. Still bits and pieces to do on an ongoing basis, but the bigger jobs are done. Myself and a couple of guys from my sailing club ventured out for a couple of hours yesterday (I was a bit nervous tbh) and the engine behaved, and we had a short sail too. Today, 2 of us went out for 4 hours in variable winds from 2 to 20 knots, tried out the reefing system (1st reef put in at 15 knots, maybe a tad conservative) and had a cracking sail, cracked open a couple of beers to celebrate. I'm a happy newbie sailor today :)

Well pleased with the boat. Thanks for everyone's help who contributed with advice.

Stevie69p,
I'll be doing the exact same thing this week with my new to me SO33i, want to see how she reefs compared to our old boat, how does she handle using a wheel instead of a tiller etc. It's all these little things that are making the Boss bit nervous but I'm sure she'll get used to handling a bigger boat. I noticed that you are down in JWD as is AWOL. We are currently there until the end of the month before we head up to Portavadie, might bump into both of you, we are on B pontoon.

I noticed you were in the water. I'm not too sure about the downward angle of your spreaders - maybe they were always like that. Have fun.

Aww, don't say that... you'll have me paranoid that the rig's going to come crashing down! No mention made by the surveyor (and trust me, he mentioned plenty!) so hopefully ok, as he was very thorough. Say hello if you see me kicking about, eh?

Grand stuff! I will look out for you when I'm mooching around... best of luck with the new boat :)
