Registering a yacht in the UK

Registering a yacht in the UK possible if -

- The yacht is not in the UK, never was (was registered in the USA)
- The owner is a British citizen
- The owner is a non-resident British citizen

Small Ships Registeration is this possible? Anyone with a similar situation done it?

If above not possible, but the owner has a child(over 21) in the UK and is a UK resident, could the 'child' register it in it's name?

Just querying the theoretical possibility and asking for a friend. ? ? ?

I'm not sure, but I think that these days, you need to be resident in the UK to be on the SSR. From threads on here, I think they tightened the rules a few years ago. When I registered Capricious last year, I recall giving my passport number.

SSR is more than difficult if you're a non resident - they ask proof of residency and a bank account in your name at address.
Part 3 is possible when you're non resident.
As regards registering in the name of a UK resident child my conclusion was that it's possible but there may be hidden issues - insurance for instance and making sure you have whatever form of owner's consent may be required by the authorities in the countries you're visiting.

I think your first line isn't really enough.

"ordinarily resident in the UK for 185 days in a 12 month period" is the actual criteria.
