Does anyone have thw address where i can register it in ireland. Or if i register with the ssr and an irish address will this be enough.

Ah - a subject near and dear to my heart. There is no SSR system in Ireland. The Merchant shipping act of 19xx (can't remember) is the only way to register a boat/ship/tanker/yacht in Ireland. Its not designed for small boats - costs a lot , maybe close to £2K (registering, survey etc) and was designed for merchant shipping. One of the requirements is that you have the ships registration number engraved on the main beam of the vessel!. its a crazy situation and there has been a lot of lobbying for an SSR type scheme but apparently some Minister for the marine here feels that if you are wealthy enough to own a boat then you can afford the £2K to register it!

There is a certificate of origin available from the Irish Sailing association (www.sailing.ie) which sometimes works. I say sometimes because in some parts of France (Lorient) they wont accept it (read 400 euro fine on the spot, in cash) but Spain is usually ok.

My advice - forget about flying the Irish flag. Register is on the SSR, stick the British Ensign on the stern and fly the tricolour on the port spreader.

Welcome to hell of registering a boat in Ireland! It's a long a tedious process, although practice shows that it can be done.

To register your yacht you need to get in touch with the Dublin Registry
of Shipping and complete the Survey 6 and survey 118 forms and return them to the Chief Surveyor together with a fee of EUR165. They will assign the surveyor and after the tonnage survey and some other formalities carving note will be issued.
