very pleasant evening, until after we went to bed and on 3 seperate occasions when asleep, were woken by the boat crashing up and down, caused by people speeding by well over the speed limit, after they were heading home from Henley. The last time was 2am ! Caused loads of stuff to fall about the cabin.

Next morning headed into Henley, and saw this before the lock. Someone had tried to steal the on-board generator of this boat I believe.

Henley

Glad you made it! We ended-up going back on Saturday as well as Sunday....what a fantastic experience! Sunday was definitely much quieter: I couldnt believe the volume of traffic on Saturday....it was incredible.

Took masses of photos....great for boat and people-watching..

By the way: Thats us in the white cruiser in the centre of the pic (just above Daydreamer).

There were loads of them trucking down all afternoon and through the night, (actually not sure they still do the fireworks) but you get the idea!

They did do the fireworks on Saturday, as we could hear them at Medmenham. I wouldn't actually moor up at Medmenham again during regatta weekend, as the idiots going by late at night afterwards really ruined it for us that night (and could cause damage).

Could be tempted next time (if the bank balance could afford it), to moor up just upstream of Hambleden lock on the official regatta moorings though. I would imagine that being so close to the lock at that position, there would be no speeding boats going by at that point as they would all be queing or slowing down to enter the lock.

As for popping into Harleyford on sunday Apollo, was hoping to get a pump out, but there was no one on duty to sell us a token (they put a sign up with a contact number for assistance, but the person on the other end said he couldn't get back for another hour or 2!).

We did the same but early evening Friday. It was such a nice morning on the Saturday we decided not to venture up to Henley but just kick back and relax and watch the various boats go up and down to and from the regatta.

I agree that some of the launches were motoring and giving off some serious wash.

Did you see "The Big Web" marquee? Not sure if it was the best way to advertise their business but certainly eye catching...hang on, the fact I noticed it means it WAS a good idea on their part :-)
