Henry is a water sucking hoover typie thing. Having a very deep bilge which had just begun to pong a bit towards the end of the season - I spent Saturday sloshing and possing a mixture of gallons of hot water, bilge cleaner flash and dettol down there and using the bilge pumps to empty it out into a container via a tube to the skin fitting. The strum box prevents the final bit of water being pumped out - enter Henry. Result - pristine, dry sweet smelling bilges.
Henry cost me a tenner for the weekend from the local miniquip hire depot.

Great idea, but I'll need to hire Henry before his innards disintegtrate after his encounter with your bilges. If they haven't already, they will after I finish with him.

Pity the poor hire company...

Funnily enough I purchased a little Jabsco hand pump at the weekend. The idea primarily being to pump diesel from a spare cannister. However I sent a happy half hour on Sunday sucking up stray bits of moisture from inaccesible bits in the bilges and under the engine with it.

I've got a fella called Pela and he'll suck up anything from anywhere - even oil out of a dipstick hole - six litres at a time...

When I was in USA in September one of the boat shops had small wet and dry vacs for $30. Pity they were too big to carry home. I saw a big one in a DIY store last weekend for €60 - just a bit too big to store on baord.

Maybe someone knows where there are small cheap ones for sale this side of the pond?
