regal 2860

just a general comment.. Regals tend to be quite well made, with a fair degree of quality detailing; upper end of that market, though personally I think the sportsboats succeed better than the cruisers. The American style poppers on the canvas are a bit of a pain. I'd check its a main dealer import and not brought in second hand,if you want any kind of help or service from the dealership.... Is it the split level cockpit, or is that the next one up ? Not sure that works so well...

Another formite had one of these, which I spent a fair bit of time on. Great build quality for a US boat with good ride and handling. His had twin petrols, which gave great performance but eye watering running costs. It wasnt the easiest boat in the World to sell, but no twin petrol boats are.

Huge back berth but difficult to access if you are 'larger framed'. Front berth was only really suitable for children due to its odd shape. Decent sociable cockpit, you could have 8 people on board for the day without feeling crampt.

He used it most weekends for a family of 4 and even spent the odd longer holiday on it. He will be along soon for more indepth comment.

Hi Jamataz,

I had one for three years. I loved it, but not the cost of twin petrols.

The Good Points. Huge rear berth, large head with decent shower, great saloon area if the removable table is taken out because you end up with a nice lounge. The galley is great because the Fridge is under the front berth which leaves a huge amount of space. The lighting is good with both natural portholes and hatches and lots of down lighters. The downside of the cabin is access to the rear cabin (Very tight!) the front berth is only for kids and the saloon area only really makes up to an adults single (not double) Also the TV station is inside the front berth curtains at night so have to move TV onto the galley.

Positives of the cockpit. Great double helm position and seat with lifting squab and a seat that turns 90 degrees around. The L shape bit is great as well and the rear bench is huge. The downside is that you struggle to get more than three round the rear table as it is a funny shape. Great galley on the back and shower. Downside is the huge canvas...it takes ages to put up and down and as it is 7ft 6inch high at the back it can be a struggle if short like me! If the canvas is going budget £2k for a replacement. The foredeck is great and easy to walk on, has a great anchor base area and has cup holders everywhere.

I think the cockpit is a compromise because of the design, as is the cabin. But they are still very good compromises.

Overall I would say go for it with twin Kad 32's. One thing to note is that the 2860 has never sold well in the UK so is a bit sticky second hand.

Handling is great at speed but a pig at berthing due to large beam and high freeboard. Access to the engines is great and a huge engine room allows for easy maintenance.

Feel free to ask specifics,

Cheers
