I tend to agree the the sentiments about Europe - from where I sit there does not seem to be much common ground - therefore to make it work we just end up doing whatever they say.

The issue of cost is one thing but has already been said there is a more practical dilema that needs to be resloved and clear guidance give to us.

If I go across to Europe I will, for safety sake leave with full tanks of presumably red as that is what is currently available at the marina (and currently "legal"). When I get there I will fill up with white but of course there will still be dye in the tank - so where do we go from there ?? As far as I am concerned I have obeyed the laws of both countries.
The politicians need to get there finger out and sort this - I for one will be planning a visit to the RYA stand at London for a bit of lobbying.

The ship sailed in 2007 what exactly are you going to lobby for?

Our HMRC 60/40 pragmatic solution was deemed unnaceptable by The Commission and is in the legal process of nailing us for infringement of the Energy Products Directive.

As I said clarity - not interested in who is right or wrong - just what we need to do in a PRACTICABLE way. To me the letters posted simply state the position. So are we really all expected to get our tanks emptied, cleaned and re-filled??

Well according to chums down in the "Med" the marina fuel prices were not so different to ours,possibly the euro+ pound rate makes the difference ?

I moved my boat to Italy recently and marine diesel in the marina was priced at €1.60 (£1.36) litre. In Croatia it was about €1.10 (£0.93) per litre in November. What with the pressure on all southern European countries to balance their books and with the Euro losing ground against the US Dollar, fuel prices in the Med are only going one way and that's up. Having said that, with the UK govt's new found resolve to stick 2 fingers up at the EU, maybe they will fight to retain the 60/40 split on red diesel as there is a certain logic behind it. With regard to Belgium, why on earth would anyone want to visit that s***ty little place?

Perhaps we in the UK have a common bond with Belgium ,in that unlike most of southern Europe,it is not full of people ,expressing utter incomprehension that their national sport of not paying any tax has got them into the pickle they are in today.

Doubt many Belgian solicitors leave the office for 5 mins so the vendor and buyer can hand over ? % of purchase price in cash to avoid tax..........allegedly

I read in the article about the round Britain boaters buying green diesel in Ireland at about 90p a litre - how does that work with the EU then?

Yes I've just read that in MBM and I would love someone to explain how they can do that in Ireland.

It's very easy really, they just don't go to Belgium. They would probably be subject to the same inspection as the UK with our 'red'.

Anyway, it is too far from Eire to Belgium.
