Subject to many posts over the last couple of years I know.

We went in our previous boat and never had an issue. This year in our new ship carrying 800 litres SWMBO was getting a bit windy. Naaah I said we will be fine as in previous years.

So in early July (a bit late as we were going third week July) SWMBO wrote to the Belgium Finance Department outlining her concern and asking for dispensation, we thought no more of it. July passed we did not make Belgium due to some warranty issues which needed attending on our boat so had a tootle around the East Coast (and as ever thoroughly enjoyed it).

Had forgotten about it until this arrived today.

What is also implied is you must keep the receipt on board and you must fill up more than once a year…
The former is more likely to be the problem.

On a separate note I have been doing an experiment by accident and it has produced some interesting results…. All will be discussed at the laying across supper…

It's the latter for us as, I'm afraid, this is still the same b******s as it has always been and matches the Belgian government statement earlier this year.
Our problem is we carry 1600 litres (yes!) so don't need to fill that regularly.
Even living on board year round using a generator for cooking and with winter heating by diesel plus two Dutch ventures (summer 2013 and 2014), we only managed 1000 litres in 15 months since the last fill up.
That means the other 600 is effectively in a receipt from early summer 2013.
If I go to Belgium in Sept 2015 without filling, I will have no receipts within a year so I will be in default of their less than helpful 'concession'. Even if I go in July, I only have a receipt covering 1000 of the 1600 in the tank, so I'm still in default.
If someone deleted the 'not more than one year old' bit, it would work for everyone.
Without that, I'm still not going to risk visiting Belgium.
However, I'm happy that the Dutch will get our Euros again next year but I would like to go to Belgium again sometime....
I'm really grumpy about it too - can you tell?

I will have a similar problem, albeit on a 700 litre scale rather than 1600 (ouch!).... but on the letter above, i'm prepared now to take the risk, as it clearly shows where their heads are at.
 
My conversation in Nieupoort with Marina management informed us of their discussions with Belgian government, including the tourist bureau which concluded that the penny had dropped that countable UK ensigns were few and far between, and they really miss our revenue. The letter (a remarkable document in itself) is as far as they can go without completely breaching the regulations by which they are 'honour' bound.
I believe they cannot do much more.
If you insist on having a supertanker with a mast however......:cool:

Me too, on a sailing boat with only a 90L tank. We try to sail most of the time, not motor, and we simply don't get through 90L a year - maybe 60, but that's all on average. So I certainly couldn't account for the contents of the tank with receipts less than a year old.
