Recovering from flood

A very specific accusation - on what evidence do you claim this to be true?

A google for "Farson data" only reveals the Farson webcam facilities:

If this is what you are referring to there appear to be only two of these installations on the Thames - one "active" in the vicinity of Hobbs at Henley and one "inactive" at Whitchurch. I fail to see how a couple of webcams can possibly provide anything other than current visual conditions. If you are referring to some more comprehensive data collection and dissemination resource can you please share the origins of this with us?
r

This is the Thames forum webpage of course but I've spoken to Farsons and the information I've posted is correct. The Thames cameras are limited, the finance is via advertising, and the internet connection is local so recent severe floods no doubt explain the current problems on the Thames, but other sites are very reliable and E.A. officers have used Fasons cameras via the internet in their control rooms, in some areas.

You have to click on particular rivers and then for data from particular times to see the level which is placed over the view of the river.

http://www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/live-webcams/north/Coquet/Rothbury/ This is for the River Coquet at Rothbury. Click on a time to see the level.

I'll speak to river control tonight , and ask them if they use webcams in any places on the thames , that should answer it once and for all :)

I've never heard of it though , all the data as far as I am aware is from telemetry.

There appears to be just one on the thames ? At Hobbs in Henley ?

Yup!

a lovely of a Hobbs boat waterline.....

Just to put this to bed as it were , I've just spoken to river control who confirm that at no location on the thames do they use webcams to monitor the river levels.

They do use webcams at some other locations ( not thames ) to monitor trash screens that are prone to blockages , and things like that.

All of the thames levels are monitored by telemetry at the lock sites and a few other locations.

:)

Thank you, Howard, for getting confirmation of this - exactly what I expected the position to be.
This forum seems to attract wild unsubstantiated claims which frequently divert attention from real issues that are important. Other recent examples have been the cost of scrambled egg for uniform hats and a list of locks which were claimed to be "inaccessible", suggesting that in some way this indicated a high risk to life and limb which was indicative of EA failures to manage its business. Frankly, I am fed up with it.

Gavi, and others in a similar situation, are suffering distress caused by a major rainfall and subsequent flooding incident beyond any reasonable expectation. They have my sympathy and understanding and a load of ill informed comment does nothing to ease their distress.
