Recommended outboard motor power

I may be wrong but I would doubt that they would allow outboards anywhere I would feel scarfed to use it especially with Four people as shown in adverts

i meant it is going to be used a lot more on the sea or the beach, not on a lake, sorry for the misunderstanding, and yes it is a chinese brand, so what do you recommend me as outboard please?

Sorry but I don't think that dinghy is fit for your purpose. Even IF you're allowed to launch it off a beach, (it will present a danger to any swimmers) it won't take much of a wave to capsize it in inexperienced hands. Outboard engines aren't designed for dunking but I would go for 8 HP.

One issue in a small rib is being flooded by wash from passing mobo etc - we have a small 3m quicksilver we have a6hp but it will move with an electric one or a 2stroke 3hp. I guess you want a motor you can handle easily really . Just pick a few up and see which is easiest to lug around if you plan to carry it any distance,

I think the original poster needs to show us a clearer idea of what he wants to do with the boat and where.

Or just check out what other people are using for what he wants and where.

Otherwise he risks putting something together that won't work and no one will want to buy off him when he wants to move onto something that works better.

thank you for your intervention, I said that I am looking for an outboard to use it mainly solo for fishing or with my wife to go to wild beaches. most of the time we will be 2 adult on board.

I would have thought that the dinghy is to small for going to wild beaches especially in the UK. Most wild beaches i have seen in the UK are quite a distance from a suitable launching site, where you will need to get the car to for unloading dinghy and then find somewhere to park the car.

I don't live in the UK, i am in a place where the wild beaches are not that far away.

I had the idea that he'd using the boat to get to the beach, having launched it at a local slipway or where ever. And if that could be a longish way, an outboard powerful enough to get the boat on to the plane with two up might seem better, if splashy. And a launching trolly or trailer to get the rig down the slipway. In which case he might as well have a hard dinghy. Which could also be better for fishing from.

The question is then what to do with the boat once at the beach. Safest would be to carry it up out of reach of waves and tide but that would suggest a much smaller outboard, light enough that the boat could be carried by him and his wife with it still on the transom.

As I said before, and assuming people do this sort of thing where he's thinking of doing this boating, what do other people use there?

For example, lots of people use small boats in Salcombe to get around the estuary to the various beaches, do a bit of fishing, maybe whizz along the coast a bit but not land so much from the open sea. There's a speed limit inside the estuary so planing there is out. Small boat, small outboard, a 6hp is plenty. On the other hand lots of people have very expensive large RIBs there these days, with 100s of HP on the back for use at sea. And of course they also land on the beaches as well, anchoring them off when they get there.

As others have said, a 2.7m dinghy is ideal for using as a secondary tender to get ashore from a larger craft. But sounds very small for a motorboat used independently. Dont know your precise usage, but something 4m or so might be better
