Thinking about whether can afford Caribbean charter, possibly BVI, this winter - only week or 10 days. RYA member benefits include 15% off Sunsail or the Moorings but that may not be best value. Any good value recommendations for smaller companies?

We had an ok experience with Dream Yacht Charter in Grenada. Great boats, great base, admin staff in UK v good. Base manager was, er, difficult. We had a bit of a problem with the boat (but not the end of the world) and he was just a pain to deal with. We refused the compensation he offered and took it up with head office. We got 2 days worth of the charter back as credit.

When comparing prices it's worth knowing that Dream and the Moorings are more luxurious/newer boats but those and their ilk also tend to include cleaning and outboards in the price whereas other companies might not, so make sure you compare apples with apples!

Hi I can recommend Horizon in Antigua and Grenada, echo latesail are good, best for me has been Cosmos yachting‐- uk based but will find you a boat wherever you want it at a better rate than you will get going direct. I deal with kasia@cosmosyachting.com +442088780880. No connection apart from satisfied customer(they were recommended to me by my yachtmaster examiner)

Did a Sunsail/Moorings charter from Grenada a few years ago. Good well presented boat, friendly shore team. Sailed to Bequia and back with lots of intermediate stops. All anchoring, though you can find the odd mooring for hire.
It's good having steady SE trades all day (and night) - sailing with 20-25Kts of warm wind is great. It never stops ?
Go for it.
