Hi All,
Flights permitting , I am off to charter a Prinz 54 along the Croatian coast Dubrovnik to Pula next month.
Whilst we will need to probably spend every other night in a harbour, town, marina etc for supplies, fuel and water, I would like to know of any "must visit" recommended bays, coves, beaches with restaurant & overnight moorings . Obviously we would dine in said restaurant. Remote is fine.
Want the peace and quiet away from the hubbub .
Grateful for your input.
Thanks in advance.
Stuart

Blimey. There are hundreds on. route that long.

Standouts for me on the S part of that route that I know... (spelling a bit dodgy :) )

Okuklje
Pomena
Korcula
Bobovisca
Mlna
Primosten
Maslinica
Sibenik
Skradin

AVOID
Palmizana
Thanks Scala,
Sibenik is where I'm chartering from.
Plan is to drop down to Dubrovnik then motor back up at aleisurely pace, overnighting in some fabulous coves with isolated restaurants.
Is Kotor worth a trip to?

The old town in Kotor is pleasant enough to wander around with cafes / bars / restaurants, and you can walk up the hill to the fortress.
The slight issue is that you might randomly find yourself surrounded by several thousand cruise ship passengers.

Two reasons really. A beautiful spot destroyed by thousands of flotilla hooligans partying 24/7. And, the most expensive marina I've ever stayed at, which was enhanced no end by the terrible facilities and lack of hot water. Awful, never again. The anchorage on the other side of the island was rammed too.

I understand Scala, I think you have meet the armada of peace. There were i.g. in 2018 about 530 boats with kids and teenagers often with loud music and party...
The bay on the the other side is one of the hot spots in this archipelago. And you are right is often overcrowded.

That's it. Was 2017 I last as there, I'm sure they're all lovely people but en masse in a small place it wasn't a great experience. But Croatia was fabulous.

three favorite spots we like very much:
Restoran mare, island Katina (national park of kornati)
Island Zut, the next bay south the ACI Marina, there were 3 Restaurants, we avoid the the one in the south of the bay.
Ravni zakan, with the knoba (national park of kornati)

Thanks Guys,
Last year we sailed the Kornati archipelago , it was so beautiful we want to cover much more with a few more comforts.
3 years ago I did a 1000 mile charter on a Windy 54 out of Athens , through Corinth canal and up to Corfu via the Ionian both ways.
I think this trip will be a little shorter.
I have my 3 kids (21 19 & 17 ) with me so need some evening entertainment ( hence marinas and harbours) every now and again to keep them sane.
I think this trip will come at around 750 NM.
I love the small secluded overnight bays with restaurants only boats can reach.

we sailed the whole coast from Kotor to Rovinj and Venice,
the boat was 3y in Porto Montenegro, , and prior to that we spend many years with the boat between Dubrovnik and split,
I'll send you our preferred spots later.

re Kotor:
you have a big Itinery, for how long will you charter ?
when going to Kotor, you need to checkout HR, check in MNE and vice verso on the return,
all very well doable, but you need some patience (count at least half a day for customs in one way, including the navigation its one full day)

Porto Montenegro in Kotor bay is worth a visit, and tax free fuel is a bonus

We have 14 days to complete.
Days will be approx 25NM mornings, stop, lunch and swim, 25 NM afternoon .
Overnight wherever we decide.
Will need to refuel 3 times.

I just put the most memoreable highlights:

If you have done Kornati, I wouldn't go all the way up north to Pula,
if you do:
don't miss Brijuni (Tito island, museum, and dynosaur fossiles)

you could do Mali Losnj (for the kids)
but I preffered Veli Losinj, (pittoresc small harbour, if you time it right, (and reserve ) from approx 15pm, you can moore overnight on the town quay and nice resto on the quay.

Zadar is a nice town for visiting

around the islands in front of Sibenic, Kaprije, Krapanj, ....
there are some bay's with turquoise or light blue water
be carefull with rock's in shallow water in some places
some bay's have resto's

inland route to Skradin is very nice, aswell are the waterfalls:
make sure you are the night before moored in Skradin we like the town quay !
and make sure you can get on the FIRST boat to the waterfalls, at 8am !!!!
you will be the first in the park, and enjoy !!
by the time you want to go back (11am) the place is completely full with crowd, waiting que on the boat is 300m ....

Primosten is nice on pictures but not worth the stop imo,

Trogir is really nice

on the island Brac,
resto Pipo in the bay near Povlja is very special, (one of the most famous in this region,)
and defo worth the tour around the island,
we also like that part of the coast very much (steep high mountains)
there is entertainment for kids in Baska Voda, or Makarska, or ...
and we have special memory's on Podgora

Stari Grad is nice,
there is a very nice and quite anchorage northwest of the village called Zavala ! !!!

and old town Var is a must,
take a mooring on the town quay OR, anker in the bay Vela Garska (NW of the town, at 1nm tender ride)
we've done that bay many times, alway's saw deers there in the night or the morning.
Hvar is place tobe for youngsters

the kids might like to visit the Blue cave on Bisevo, You need tobo there in the morning (cave is only blue before 12h)
they will also like the green cave, on the most south east rock island near Vis,
you can go in that cave with a 40..50ft boat, (and make a u turn)

Korcula is worth a stop, you can anker in the quite bay on the east (vela vrbovica) at 1.5nm from the town
don't go the ACI, is not nice,
the quay on the west side of the old town is much better, (I have phone nr of the guy in charge if needed)

anchorage south of island Badija is very nice

Zuljana bay on Peljesac is nice, on south side is a camping site with a sandy beach

On Mljet,
Polace is probably the nicest bay in Croatia,
we prefer on anker, well sheltered for any wind, alway's like a lake there
but you can also moore infront of a resto,
Bourbon used tobe the best,

(Pomena is not worth the extra travelling imo)

then on Peljesac,
Konoba Nico in Kobas, mooring on the quay of the resto,
our all times favourite !! alway's adventure ;-)
from there you can visit Ston by tender

we also LOVE Sipanska Luka,
resto Marko

I was adviced a very nice stop with beach and resto on the SE side of Sipan,
Restoran Bowa

south side of island Lopud is sandy beach Sunj,
that is where are the local youngsters go

on island Kolocep, resto Villa Ruza is good

In Dubrovnik, the new marina in Gruz is open since last year !
for visiting old town, we go on anker in the harbour bay of Lokrum,
or in front of hotel Exelcior
(bring guests with the tender,)

Cavtat is our vavourite place in Croatia,
on anker in Tiha bay, or overnight on the town quay, not cheap but really worth it !
I have all the contacts if needed..
also the youngsters will like it !
if you want to go to Montengro, you have todo the checkout here,
checkin MNE in Zelenica !

in Kotor bay: highlights are:
visit Kotor and klimb the townwall
stay in Kotor harbour ! I have phone nr for reservation
Kotor is a very lively town !

Islands in front of Perast !!! (for lunch stop)

Tivat & porto montenegro, (1 or 2 nights !)
before leaving:
make reservation for getting tax free fuel, and do checkout / leave the country back to Croatia,
(checkin again in Cavtat or Dubrovnik (no stops in between checkout - checkin)

I have some more pointers in Montenegro if needed..

but this list will easyly cover 2 weeks :)

the summer that we did the trip from Porte Montenegro to Venice and back, (4y ago)
we took a agent (Adriatic Services)
they arranged the moorings (40euro/night extra for the agent) and arranged the checkin - checkout (but its doable yourselve)
with the agent we alway's got the best places to stay...
fe Hvar Town quay in July (august is nearly impossible)

I assume you have the book 999 Harbours and anchorages
you can't do this trip without !

A couple of decades ago now but we based ourselves in Artatore bay and had an apartment This was in the Mali/Veli Losnj area. Then we anchored but I bet it’s bouys and payment now. There is a little island called Susak not far away which was a film set.

The best weather forecast for this region is

DHMZ - Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service

There you have the aladin charts with a 3 day forecast of the wind and also the wave hight and a daly prognose.
You have to consider the right time which shows the UTC.

I dont´t know the book 999 harbors and anchorages but, the book 888 harbours and anchorages;). The author is Karl Heinz Beständig, and its very very helpful with all the informations. It exists since 1984 and is updated every year.

888 Häfen und Buchten von Karl Heinz Beständig ab Lager zu 29,90 € , Kroatischer Hafen und Buchtenführer | Kroatische Seekarten, Hafenkarte, GPS Wegepunkte, Routenplaner, Törnplaner

North of Pula you don't have the anchorages you have in the south. Be careful when crossing the Kvarner Channel, as this water can be very dangerous with the weather, but with a P54 I think you have some scope.

Keep an eye out for a north easterly Wind called Bora (Bura). In Croatia many things turns around this often very dangerous wind and weather situation. The wind comes regularly in some often changing periods.

Have a very nice journey

Thats as maybe but there's one of the best restaurants in Croatia a short walk over the hill

Zori – Zori

We were based in Marina Frapa near Split for 4 years from 2010-14 and visited Palmizana many times. Yes its not the best marina in Croatia. The staff are rude and unhelpful and the electricty is crap. However, as I said, not only is Zori a short walk away but there are regular taxi boats to Hvar Town from the marina which is worth knowing if you cant get a berth on the quay in Hvar

Just round the corner from Palmizana, there is another island with another excellent restaurant but you'll have to anchor to get to it

restoran Antonio Patak
