Now it is time to buy something bigger than the finnmaster T8 that we hade for two summers. Love the boat but we have almost had the canopies up
al the time because the time it takes to take them up and down and now we want to do longer trips. But we still want to do daytrips for sunbathing, it would be fun to have a tender to.
We are a familly of 4 with to kids (age 5 and 7) and we live in the souther part of sweden so you never know how the weather will be, usually rains sometimes.
Today we have most used our boat for bathing and short trips and just stay in the harbour. We want to do longer trips, maybe be out 1-2 weeks instead of only 1 night.
So we need and boat with a proper shower and, roomy beds so you wake up feeling you have sleept:)
Boating is new to us so we want a boat that is easy to handle and not older than 8 years if it is a used boat. We dont use the boat alyear, only from april to september.
When we have used the boat for longer trips we find it comfortable in 22-29 knots.
Since the kids are lively it would be great to have som space for them to be when we are cooking so you don´t have them running around right behind you:), ofcourse they
can always be in the cabin watching ipads but a boat with an extra table for them sit and paint would be great.
I have looked at different boats around 32-37 foot but handling a 40footer with a good joystick when berthing maybe is not that much more difficult? Feel that if I buy a 32-35 footer I will probably
thinking of bying an bigger in a couple of years.
I have looked at many sporttops and some flybridge boat.
Princess V39 is a boat that ticks many of the boxes since you can remove the roof easilly and get the open feeling, good bathingplatform, looks good, you have tables both down and up so the kids can sit and play. Two good cabins and you can convert
the dinette to a bed if the kids doesent want to sleep in the same room, looks really well built, the only downside is i have to deal with canopies:) .
Here is my list, maybe som model i have missed to look at?
Modell
Princess V39
Sealine 380
Bavaria R40
Marex 360
Marex 310
Sealine 330
Sealine 390
Grandezza 37
Grandezza 40 Fly
Bavaria SR41
Windy maestro 40
Windy Chinook 45
Benetau trawler 35
Galeon 360 fly
Windy 39 camira
Fairline GT38
Galeon 425HTS
Marex 320 ACC

As you are from Sweden would add Nimbus 365 to that list or even the 405. And from Marex I would also add the 375.

If going for the 40+ size and you are looking at the swift trawler there is also the Azimut Magellano 43 - For an Italian style take on that type of boat.

And in the spirit of the forum / Scala’s post. We went from an open day-cruiser and tired of dealing with canopies to a Sargo 33 - looks a bit like a fishing boat - but it does 40 knots top speed - zero canopies to deal with - just close the door (and if needed turn on the heat) when the weather turns - we find it a great family vacation boat here in the mixed Scandinavian weather. So Compared to the smaller open boat we also find ourselves using the boat much more frequently and for longer trips (2 week trips the latest few summers). And with the wide side decks and side doors it is super easy to handle short handed (even if you sail with the kids alone) as you can access all points on the boat easily.

Thanks for the tips, i looked at the Magellano 43 to, looks nice but I think I will take out the trawlers from my list since I want a little more speed

if you look at the Princess V39/V40 compared to the Sealince C390, anyone with family who have experience of these type of boats.
We are not going to use it in the winter only from april to late september. The V39 has a dinette and sofa below and guess this could be a plus for kids but the C390 have the dinette upstairs so you can see better when cooking and 3 cabins and a glasdoor that you shut so you could have heating upstairs on a cold summerday

Does any one have an idea about fuel economy comparison between Bavaria R40 and Marex 375 ? Marex 375 has Bravo 3 Mercuriser 270hp option and 2xDPI Volvo D4-300. Whereas Bavaria has 2x Volvo Penta 370hp

I have similar expectations as Micke and reduced my list to Bavaria R40 and Marex 375. Kindly asking your comments and advices.

I really wouldn’t worry about fuel consumption differences. Fuel costs are quite minor compared to mooring costs, depreciation and maintenance. If you are worrying about the difference of 1.1nmpg or 1nmpg you are in the wrong place.
