Recommend a Leisure Battery

I am looking at getting a new 12 Volt leisure battery (dimensions approx. 280 x 175 x 175) 70 Ah, minimum. My existing 70 Ah has been perfectly adequate so is there any benefit on going for a higher Ah battery? I am happy with a 3 year life on the basis that I don't trust any battery to last much longer under normal care and use conditions. I have a Sterling 20 Pro Charger when attached to shore powere plus a 30W solar panel which will trickle charge with a PWM charge controller. The batteries don't normally go longer than 4 weeks between being charged from shore power. I would consider paying up to £140 and welcome any recommendations.

I think you may have difficilty with 175mm height limit in a leisure battery but you will easily find car batteries that height with around 70 or 75 Ah capacity

Height was one of the constraints in choosing my battery

I bought a 60AH Varta LFD60. It is 246(l) x 175 (w) x 190 (h) An LFD 75 is the same width and height but is 278 long

Thanks for the reply. On consideration height is not a great problem but I note you went for a 60Ah battery most people including me would go for bigger Ah's than 60. Do you think the Ah rating is a bit irrevelant for normal navigation, radio and sensible domestic light use?

60 Ah is big enough for my needs but you need to do an "energy audit" to determine your own needs. I'd previously only had 45 Ah so 60 is a big upgrade ! IIRC the 75 Ah one was just a few mm too long!

Fit the biggest you can squeeze in. Battery megastore or tayna batteries are a couple of good places to look.

It's not whether you should go for more than 70Ah. Your problem is going to be getting much more than 75Ah in the size indicated, even 190mm high. Maybe Varta LFD75, Banner or maybe Yuasa M series.
If you can go to 315 long you get more options.
