Rebedding sealant

Discovered proof of a suspected saling failure where a cleat bolts down at the weekend: a coule of gallons of water in the bilge and wet down the cabin side.

What's the right stuff to reseal it all, having removed the cleat to fix it down again? I assume Sikaflex or similar but just want to check before doing anything irrevocable.

I use neoprene foam tape.

Its clean and easy to use and stays in compression to prevent water penetration

I use HA6 from Bond It it's a silicone adhesive, temperature stable between -60 to +200C, doesn't shrink, unaffected by UV or salt water immersion and besdt of all costs a princely 2.98. Not sure where you live in Hampshire but I get from a cheapo shop in Bitterne

I now use Arbomast BR butyl based sealing compound, about £6 per tube. What ever you end up using ensure that it is all not squeezed out of the joint otherwise it will leak again.

Sikaflex is a good sealant.

One of its attributes is that is sets, and acts like a glue.

Just be warned if ever you need to remove the item.

Its a big stern cleat. Don't envisage ever wanting to remove it
