I finally decided to do something about my rig tuning and the experts for my class assure me at least 6" aft rake is necessary. Problem is that the backstay has no more adjustment and needs shortening - whoopee! I get to try my cutters - so, can I re-use the present Sta-lok terminal; do I need a new cone and/or former; and how is my insurance company going to react if it all falls down?
The alternative is the local rigger who, as far as I'm concerned, has an 100% record of not doing what was asked in an ever-extending time frame and it seems unlikely that it would be worthwhile to import one for such a tiny job.

When we replaced all our rigging I called Sta-lok and asked if I could reuse the terminals. They said fine as long as you check them carefully. You should replace cone/former. Our insurance company were happy but I did get the rigger to check all the fittings.

Thanks. That is one site that I didn't find when Googling for "Sta-lok". Looks like I have to deal with the riggers again to buy the parts 'cos I would like mast rake on Wednesday night's race to see if it does make any difference.

I would be interested to hear how easy it was to fit the StaLok to the already used wire. I have been told that if the wire has been in use for some time it becomes "set" and very difficult to unravel and fit around the cone.

Just a little warning,( although this may not be relevant.) I had considered doing the same for the similar reasons, until I noticed that my mast is not vertical. ( by looking at it in reference to other masts on the marina) thus it is the top of the lower section of the mast that must move forward. The mast head , and foot will stay where they are while the top of the lower section will move forward, until the mast is mainly vertical and there will be some prebend .
