If you registered a plb or epirb before the end of september you need to do it again.

Just done mine not too terrible as online form filling goes.

Strange thing is they knew all my details from the email address but I still had to fill the form in.

Before you start you need the make model and uin number plus serial number from the unit.also need names and contact phone numbers for emergency contacts.I put 3 names in.

Heres hoping I never need it.

Did mine yesterday. As you say, I’m sure they had all the details already from Ofcom or wherever it was I had it previously registered. Ensures the details are up to date I suppose.

So it seems.

New digital emergency Beacon Registry service goes online today

I was wondering why I heard nothing of this, until I read this bit:

Existing customers must confirm their beacon details on the new service by logging in using the email with which they registered their beacon. If this registration occurred within the last eight years, the Beacon Registry will be in contact by email or letter with advice as to how to do this and how to manage their data in the future.

As my five PLBs were registered in 2012 I guess I don’t merit notification! The efficiency of the system will be something to ponder, then, if I ever am relying on one.

I have a beacon registered in 2015 and was notified, by email, on Friday. Perhaps some notifications must be by post, so will take longer to produce and arrive. The on-line service is still in Beta - seems to work though, despite the need to input stuff again.

I got an email last week about this. None of the links worked. I emailed the contact us bit but no reply so far. It seems I need to have another go sometime.

I haven't received an email so phoned registry just now. They haven't finished emailing everyone yet as many thousands to send but mine is registered under old email address anyway so he advised just making a new registration. As my registration papers are on boat many miles away, he's emailing my hex no. and other details to me so I can complete registration. Very helpful chap :)

For me their web system is timing out and they don't answer the phone. Just have to leave it on my to-do list .................

worked great for me a week or two ago, I registered my account and then claimed the PLB registration that was in the system. It wasn't the best interface in the world, but it did work in the end

Had another go today and it worked. Like lustyd I claimed my PLB. What would have happened if someone else managed to claim it ?

I couldn't register mine at first as the serial number isn't on the beacon. I emailed the registry asking what I was supposed to do and a very pleasant chap just telephoned me with the information.

Very helpful service.

Slight fred drift, we are changing yachts and onboard the old one we have a PLB, battery is well out of date and not worth replacing, I could take the PLB down to the local tip. I presume there is a way of unregistering them before they are scrapped ?? anyone any experience.

yes in the new portal you can mark them retired. You'll need to claim it first in a new account. Alternatively reregister it on the new boat and keep it as a better than nothing option

Spares Marine will replace the battery and test for considerably less than buying a new one. Don't dispose of one without removing the battery.

There is a very nice pretty much brand new one on board, and the battery has already been removed and recycled on the old one.(y)

I registered my epirb about 14 months ago. I had the letter confirming registration last week. And now they want me to do it again??? WTF??

No, you're registered. The claiming process just ties your online account to the registration to make it easier for you to update details in future.
