Re-painting over non-slip deck paint

I was afraid I'd get get back these answers! Why do people use grey paint on a white deck??? I have to say I'm not looking forward to stripping off the old paint, there's a lot of it, the previous owner must have got a job lot cheap!!!

If it hasn't already ben said......?.....scrape off the worst and repaint with deck paint, not a problem, did it several times over the years with my ex J27.....

It would be nice if one could keep the same deck paint colour BUT when the fatheads at International Paints decide to withdraw the Light Blue Interdeck you (and many other of their customers) have used for years, you have no choice but to change colour!

Indeed. Used the light blue Interdeck, really liked the colour. After International Paints removal of the light blue I have decided never to use their paints anymore. Never!

As I implied in my earlier reply, you aren't restricted to the available Interdeck colours - just use white and blend in a bit of another colour. Personally, I don't like any of the available colours.

Yes, it is possible to blend. But to get the same blend as two years ago is not so simple. And when International Paints changes their colour scheme, where will it end next time? Only black? Or a new paint, with other qualities than the traditional? (This they have done with varnish, so it is not farfetched).

Well, again as I stated in my first reply, my "blended" deck paint has lasted 8-9 years so far so it's a problem that shouldn't crop up too often. When it needs re-doing I'll see what's available on the market. One tip: it requires a surprisingly small amount of the second colour to tone down white to a non-glare condition.

Yes the FATHEADS or sales orientated A--HOLES (as I prefer to call them) at International are famous for that, they did the same with Bermuda Blue.

International paints have advised the Westerly Owners association:

Received from Katie Miller, Area Sales Rep for International Paints:

"At the Southampton Boat Show I spoke to numerous owners about the Pale Blue Interdeck non slip deck paint that is favoured by many Westerly owners.

As you may know, this particular colour was discontinued last year for commercial reasons, although it seems that it is still a product in demand for Westerly owners.

Therefore, I write to advise you that we have created an alternative method of creating this shade using 4 Parts of Interdeck Grey to 1 Part Toplac Oxford Blue (Yacht Enamel). This creates a shade almost
identical to that used by many of your members.

If you have any queries, please dont hestiate to contact me via email - katie.miller@akzonbel.com "

Thanks for that Nigel

I am going to email Katie Miller at International Paints and suggest (as politely as I can) that whoever decided to do away with International Pale Blue Interdeck should ease themselves out of their office chairs and take a walk round their nearest marina, where they may be surprised to see how many yachtsmen like painting their decks pale blue!

I suppose what will eventually happen is that those of us who haven't been able to source pale Blue Interdeck will have to repaint using some other colour. When we have done that, International Ltd will announce that "due to popular demand", they have decided to re-introduce Pale Blue!

Previous owner had painted my decks with Santex and having spent considerably time scraping it off as it was flaking, no way would I use it again.
Perhaps if enough of us contact Kate Miller with complaints perhaps they will re consider

Commercial reasons!!! Exactly that, we have now got to buy two tins of paint instead of one.

For your information, I have just tried to email Katie Miller at International and the email was returned on both occasions. What's going on?

12 days ago I wrote to the managing director of International Paints Ltd complaining about the withdrawal of Interdeck 339 Light Blue and asking for it to be reinstated. I haven't had a reply yet.
