Re-engine Sadler 32

From my own experience with a 24-year old Beta 622 (3 cylinder, ca. 18bhp) getting pretty much to hull speed, I would go for a Beta 25 if a new engine were required - a logical choice for three reasons: satisfaction with the existing engine, good Beta support, and the same footprint.

the beta 30 would be a better engine for the sadler. Best engine would be the Yanmar 30, smaller, quieter but more expensive.

My own application of formula on Beta site came to 24HP, although few percent loss in alternator take-off and g/box, so I'm not sure 30 is necessary and may not be working hard enough.

No problem with the 28hp. It will work hard enough if it has the correct prop. a 20 will not achieve hull speed, 25 will just about do it in flat water and the 28 will achieve it comfortably with reserve for adverse conditions. The extra price of the 28 is around £100. The only downside is that the larger capacity engine is longer and wider. The upside is that it produces more power at lower RPM so you will be able to cruise at between 2000-2200 rpm, rather than 2400-2600. If you look at the 32s for sale that have been re-engined you will find the majority have gone for 28-30hp.
