I've been retired for many years and, in all honesty, wonder how much longer I will be able to enjoy a new engine when, in my first season with it, I will have turned 77.
I dont think its an engineering / reliability issue - nobody can predict when it i going to break down and with what problem other than to say that it will happen when you last want it to do so. For example, when the engine is undern stress in bad weather.
In my view its a peace of mind issue and I find that as I get older I get more inclined to be anxious about things and less able to be philosophic. If you can cope happily with the unexpested, then hang on to the existing. If you are a worryer, the get a new engine.
