Re-engine or keep staggering on?

I've been retired for many years and, in all honesty, wonder how much longer I will be able to enjoy a new engine when, in my first season with it, I will have turned 77.

I dont think its an engineering / reliability issue - nobody can predict when it i going to break down and with what problem other than to say that it will happen when you last want it to do so. For example, when the engine is undern stress in bad weather.

In my view its a peace of mind issue and I find that as I get older I get more inclined to be anxious about things and less able to be philosophic. If you can cope happily with the unexpested, then hang on to the existing. If you are a worryer, the get a new engine.

Northern Adriatic & Italy with long winding channel to your berth - that wouldn't be around Venice would it! If so, what a lovely area to sail! I'm jealous!

Searush, close, but no cigar, well, maybe a cigarillo. Laguna di Marano, about 50nm NE of Venice.

But hey, you can't complain, your area is also beautiful. The grass always looks greener ... and I'm sure you don't have a 700km drive to get to your boat, as I do.

Nah, only about 200km, takes 2-3 hrs depending on traffic. But, yes I love N Wales, second only to W Scotland & Clyde area. But I enjoyed a trip to Venice & the local lagoon islands & the Adriatic coast around Split - right down to Dubrovnic.
