Re engine 16M trawler yacht

JFM I interpret that as you would like to come to Troon one weekend ,rather than Antibes, and sort it all out for me ?? Luckily Scotts bar serves fine Haggis and 80 Shilling.

...as you did him a massive favour by buying his old german heap off him, I would have thought that's the least he could do in return...

+1

also depends who's the older one, my young bro always asks for favours and never ever returns them!
OK, I'm stupid enough to take them on but that's another story...

Happy to. However, I just searched the entire Med on Google maps and can't find any place called "Troon" . I know you're not great at typing so maybe it was a typo. Did you mean Ibiza?

SilverDee is 46 years older than me :D (He always returns favours etc!)

Can`t comment on ages but anyone will tell you which one is better looking. JFM I will send you the Clyde Cruising Almanac -you may not just have it to hand on Match 2.

Oooh firefly how could you say that man! I am hurt to my very car. I mean core. That little piece of Germany was such a beautiful thing. I'm not talking to you anymore! (er for 5 minutes)

...sorry, I had to.

the M5 v10 was a mighty tool, I totally understand why misguided people fell for them. If someone could prise me out of my old weekend jalopy I would consider a BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe Saloon, what a pretty car...

All went downhill after the e34 M5 IMHO. I had one at 25 and loved it more than anything. Had a lotus Carlton after which was a monster but nothing like as good. Sorry for the drift silverdee. :):):)

Sorry, the e39 M5 was the Daddy. Cracking car, and best real world performance apart from the Mitsubishi Evo 6, which for me is the faster a2b car on the road.

Na Rafiki. The e39 was a great car but chris bangle's masterpiece the e60 was several leagues better. I had both: e39 for 4 years and 60k miles and then the e60. I can forget about the e39 but the v10 in the e60 and 500hp vs 400, plus SMG box, make the e60 very special. SilverDee did another 100k in my e39 after I had it - he bought it specially to fill with dive kit and tank up to his boat in Oban every Friday night about 11pm (from manchester) and on those empty-ish roads I think he got the journey time down to about 55mins . I suspect he had a magnet-stick-on flashing blue light on a curly wire :-)

The Evo6 performed, but the bakelite dashboard and lack of quality fit out made it a lesser animal

Dont worry about thread drift. SilverDee will regard all this as on topic

JFM, I bow to your superior knowledge on the e60 M5, but overall, while the styling of the 39 was boring, it's all round steering ride and handling was better for me. I would never buy an Evo, but it was just sooooooo fast on the B roads around my home, and the active diff was stunning for turn in and drifting. However, 30 mins was about max endurance. Evo 10 is an all round nicer car, as oGaryo may attest, but the 6 was the fastest. I could wreck a set of tyres at Mira in less than 20 minutes. :)

Hmmm, talk about thread drift..... I thought this was about putting a new engine in a trawler.

Tom:rolleyes:

Hee Hee! I think they're killing time whilst awaiting arrival of the new engines! (Like those slow news days where bizarre topics hit the headlines...)

On a 'back on topic' note, would also love to see some more pics - beautiful boat and hard to imagine how all that fits inside!

It's a beautiful ship. Lower deck has 4 ensuite cabins below served by 2 staircases, plus walk-in e/room. Main deck has a big saloon, then enclosed galley just abaft of wheelhouse side doors, then a door-closeable wheelhouse. Flybrdige is quite big and served by two staircases

I'm guessing a bit of a tardis and engine room in particular would be topical and interesting... ;)

Curious JFM what you replace an e60 M5 with? Difficult package to better I would imagine..sorry for prolonging the tread drift!

Jag XF RS is not a bad package. Less raw then the Bimmer, but better all round package. Styling a bit fruggly though. f Type is the best drive at the moment, unless JFM could put up with the Macca MP12. Now that is a drive :D

LOL, Bangle and masterpiece in the same sentence, now that's a proper oxymoron, if I've ever seen one... :D

I disagree MM, Bangle made Bimmer styling interesting. The E60 still looks great, and the E90 has stood the test of time. Bimmers made Daimlers and Audi's look very boring.

Nah, neither has stood that test, yet. You can say that of the R129, or of the 930, just to name a couple of other German cars.
Otoh, I do know that Bangle is polarising, and some folks like its work.
'Fiuaske, his best effort was the Fiat Coupé, and only went downhill since he moved to BMW. But that's again just an opinion.
What's instead a fact is that he is the only designer in the history of automotive industry who inspired a petition - and in its own home Country too! ("its" meaning "BMW's") - for sacking him asap.
Time will tell, but my bet is that THIS fact will stand the test of time better than the cars he designed.... :)

The Fiat coupe looked OK in its time, but was a really poor drive, insufficient torsional stiffness. Not Bangles fault, but the base platform was very poor. Silk purse and sows ear come to mind.
Styling is so subjective, so we will have to agree to disagree. I like the Azimut swoopy styling, but many don't.
