I will admit to being GREEN with jealosy!!. I had to work on Staurday at an Exhibition, and I hadn't thought we could have come anyway because our registration documents were lost in the post. But theMCA found them and we had our Part 1 cert. through last Thursday. I watched the weather and guessed we had missed something special. What was Saturday like over there?
BUT, big question, would women have been allowed?
I would have brought Richard as my 'passport' anyway.
Like Julie, I also want to get all the low-down.

Were women allowed? Well, MrG not only took his lovely SWMBO,but also Nickel and his wife Alison, me, and JaneK- with Janek skippering the outward leg. Some remarks have been made about "real men" doing the virtual Cherbourg- I would suggest "real men" do it with women! A big Thank You from me to MrG and MrsG, a fantastic sail, in great company.

MrG had a very fine SWMBO
Who thought she'd be left in limbo
"Don't worry, my dear,
I've got an idea..."
He took 3 more birds and a HWMBO

And it was MrsG who got the speed record on the way back.

Yes of course women were allowed - this year (sorry don't know the exact number) would guess 8, far more than last years 2 attendees.

Maybe you can come next year with or without extras as you will made welcome by the guys as much as we were. It was all good fun and hilarious at times - you certainly missed something and the return sail was a cracker.

'What was Saturday like over there?' cloudy but warm from what I remember we didn't get in until 10'ish and slept 1/2 the afternoon in anticipation of the evening jollities in fact I don't think it rained Fri, Sat or Sunday but could be wrong.

It rained quite hard late Saturday afternoon for a couple of hours otherwise it was dry.

We were there as a couple but didn't actually meet any of the other couples as in the event we opted out of the dinner when the location moved somewhat farther away. My better and probably wiser half was concerned about the logistics of getting 80/90 people there and back by multiple taxi trips and especially concerned about the return trip perhaps crammed in a taxi with one of the more enthusiastic drinkers. That is not a criticism, merely a perceived problem we preferred to avoid especially with an early departure planned for Sunday!

In answering BigNick's (and he deserves a medal) request elsewhere for suggestions I have said that I would like to see more of a gathering on the boats or around the pontoons area. That way people could meet and chat in a boaty context whereas timescales this year meant that meeting lots of the attendees was only really possible via the dinner which regrettably we missed. I may be wrong but think many couples would feel happier in a less 'lads weekend away' environment, again not a criticism just a personal observation and other couples that attended may feel differently.

Would we go again? Yes probably if we are able to and the format allows for more interaction during daytime hours.

So how many boats actually went across?
I am gratified to know that women were present, and also oviously enjoyed them selves. I admit to wondering if the trip was just a booze cruise in the sense that drinking to excess was the prime motivation. As if the Forumites would do that!
Still, maybe we will come next time. Agree that keeping the socialising as close to the marina is probably a good thing, especially for couples.
Still, anything would have been better than the 'Body Beautiful' Show I had to attend. (We had a stand there).

mmmm no Claymore was accompanied byPretty Young Thing who jumped ship (I think in Tobermory.. odd things happen in the Mishnish).. We offered to replace her with Moira Anderson or Eddi Reader but Claymore being the resourceful type managed to find Libby Purves somewhere en route.. Please don't mention Pretty Young Thing to Claymore as he seemed quite mournful about it all.. though I am not convinced that Pretty Young Thing was very good for Claymore's constitution... he had a funny turn at one point.. had to put out a pan pan medico..
