Nope - I try to remember to do the same ....

I find that rotating the housing through 180 degrees and back again usually clears it, but not always. If not, it's a messy business involving removing the settee cushions and the carpet, and having towels handy to mop up. Not something I would want to do before/after every trip.

Carpet? Sounds more like a house of pleasure than a boat!

Looks more like "a disorderly house" !

My 1st encounter with an impeller was Corfu this year.We noticed the log wasn't working, and the charterer suggested that a quick dive + tickle might fix it. Gouvia marina? no way. So Popeye quickly explains about holes in hulls, the delicate operation we were to perform in a very synchronised way, and I was sh**tting myself, at the idea of the boat full of Gouvia gunk. But we did manage it, only needing a bit of kitchen paper to mop up. Now know how to coordinate the whole op, but in future preferably with someone who takes up a bit less space than Popeye.

Had this problem on Cornish Maid, so lowered a loop of rope around the bow and gently eased it aft to the leading edge of the keel. That freed the paddlewheel and it was fine afterwards.

Nice easy way to do it if the wheel isn't in an awkward place. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Jelly fish

I had a jelly fish log incident this year.

During a routine clean of the log I was surprise by the lack of the unusual fountain on initial extraction. Looking down the hole I could see a small jelly fish type growth wedged in the hole, what luck!

Unfortunately it proved impossible to refit the log with the jelly substance wedged in place under pressure and holding the antiflow flaps part open. A 10 minute job turned into a 40 minute full toolkit out exercise involving surgical removal of the aquatic invader.

Re: Re C\'bourg trip, did you hear the story of the near sinking...

Our paddlewheel stops working whenever we leave the boat for more than a couple of weeks, so removing it and clearing it is a routine excercise on the way out. It's under the cabin sole in the focsle so easy to get at

We have a blanking plug but I think it's shorter than the transducer so concerned we may get growth which prevents refitting the transducer. I'll take another look as I'm not certain about this!
