I noticed towards the end of last season that the heading on this unit was as much as 20 degrees out. At the same time the image of the boat on the plotter appeared to crabbing across the chart by what seems to be a similar error. I presume it needs recalibrating but am curious what could have caused this to happen? Or is this a sign of impending failure?

Could be as simple as moving something nearby compass, if factory fitted should be under aft cabin floor, check area first to see if anything has been placed near it, then carry out re-calibration and go from there.
