Raymarine ST2000+ servicing

Hi,

I have the above tiller pilot, it came with the boat. Started using it more often recently. It seems to have some skills I don't ? and holds the course resonably steady. I wonder though if there is any regular servicing/maintenance required to at least extend its working life?

Not as far as I am aware. I have one which has been unreliable but as far as I know, the major problem is water penetration which causes parts to fail. Servicing it would involve opening it and ,I suspect, increase the likelihood of a poor seal and future water penetration. I'd go with the principle 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

I have used them and was satisfied with the service provided. This was for a chart plotter which was a simple fix, and for an ST2000 which had chewed up its drive when it was overpowered and crashed into the bumpers.

You can get covers for them with a little plastic window to see the display, or make one. Some people wrap them in cling film if it's raining. Best stored in a nice dry environment, i.e. not on a boat. Put it in the airing cupboard if you have one for a bit after it's been out in the wet. Only ever taken them apart to fix something, on reassembly apply silicone grease to the seals. You can lubricate the arm a little bit...

As above, a little bit of silicone grease on the arm esp if it is being left unused for some time. I have a ram that picked up corrosion where a tiny bead of seawater must have lain over winter, no problem but not kind to the seal.
A cover is a nice, easy first project on a sewing machine.
