Hi Folks

Can anyone advise what might be wrong with a year old Raymarine ST2000 autopilot. When its pluged in it bleeps but does not come on or have a reading on the display screen. We have checked and there are not any connection problems at the plug.

Thanks in advance for the replys

Andrew

Ring Raymarine in Portsmouth - the kit has a 2 year warrantee. They will be able to offer phone advice or fix it for you if required.

Always had excellent service from them.

They are on 02392693611

My mate bought that model a few months ago and while sailing two wks ago it retracted all the way in and just stuck there.
Its only a 24ft boat so it should be capable of coping with the loadings from that size of boat.

I have the ST1000, the beeping, means its got water inside, My first one went that way after five months use and my second one which was a replacement from Raymarine in January has gone that way too, unfortunately its probably just over the 24 months since I bought the first so the waranty might be up.
I am interested in knowing how many other people have had problems with water ingress, before I buy another one.

Yes, I had one each 1000 and 2000 destroyed by water ingress.
I now switched to 4000 (new name ?) wich electronic box can be insalled away from rain and spray.

This doesn't directly help you, but I used to take the lid off my AH1000 and winter it in the airing cupboard.
Kept it going for about 10 to 12 years by cleaning circuit boards and reseating clamp ribbon connectors during winterization.

Lots of peeps have made something like this to keep the rain off. Yes, I know, you shouldn't have to. But I suspect the market for tiller pilots is diminishing and if pushed to fix the design Raymarine would stop making them.

I have an ST2000 and had a similar problem - it turned out to be low voltage due to (what I thought was insignificantly) dirty pins - try giving both plug and socket a good clean! (I now make sure the cover is always on the socket whn not in use and have not had a problem since)

Yep, we made covers for ours years ago, and despite several ocean passages and some pretty lumpy weather over mant years, have never had a water ingress problem.

You are right though, it really shouldn't be necessary in such an otherwise excellent design!

Thats a nice looking cover, I assumed that the rain was getting in through the switch panel on mine, but I am not sure now.
