Help!
I bit the bullet and purchased a new Raymarine S100 wireless autopilot remote control. I foolishly thought that installation would be straightforward. The controller is coming up with the message "NO PILOT". I have a ST6002 instrument and the S2 course computer, I think that the drive motor is a Lewmar but not sure if that matters. Is the problem because the S2 is SeatalkNG and I need a converter? Not sure what the solution is, any help apprechiated:-) Autopilot control through 6002 works perfectly.

Hi Pete
I wired the receiver into the seatalk connector on the ST6002 which is next to the S2 course computer. I also tried it elsewhere on the network, same result, it registers but does not seem to recognise the autopilot, I know the autopilot is operational since I can control it by the ST6002.

Not absolutely sure what you mean by seatalk 1 segment

Its connected to the 3 pin slightly curved connector, that is what RM supplied.

That's a Seatalk 1 connector, the right one.

I think that the C80 has the round type, should I try these?

The C80 has the same slightly-curved Seatalk plugs as above. Any round ones will be something else, probably NMEA. The round Seatalk plugs were on the old black ST50 series stuff and possibly earlier.

Seatalk 1 instruments connect together like a daisy-chain. They can be in any order, and branching is also ok, but they all need to be connected. There needs to be a path from the S100 receiver to the pilot brain via an unbroken chain of Seatalk 1 stuff.

Is it compatible with the s2?

I believe the Seatalk commands for autopilot control have remained basically unchanged since the very first models. The S100 will emit the same commands as the ST6002, so if one works then the other should. My S100 remote works fine with my S1 autopilot, the same series as the OP's S2.

Trying a different tack, is there any reason to suspect a problem with the radio link from remote to receiver? Below decks in a steel boat?

Pete

Just a thought mine says "no pilot" when the motor arm is not plugged in. Are you testing it with the arm unplugged?
I also occasionally get this message on the remote and pressing standby and pilot a couple times seems to clear it.

Hello all,
Been at sea, Kip, through Crinan canal and now at Craobh. I tried to phone Raymarine technical help, eventually talked to Mark who was very helpful. He suspects that the S100 and/or base unit may be faulty. I propose to test on my pals boat, if it still does not work, will return to Raymarine, if it does work on his boat, back to the drawing board!

I had a faulty aerial connection inside which produced NO PILOT. We also had initial problems like yours trying to register the remote with the base station. I assume you have done that?!!!!

We had to do a factory reset and then registered the two units successfully.

If you buy a set new, they should already be registered with each other. Mine were. So the OP shouldn't need to do that, although maybe it's worth a try just in case.

Many thanks for the advice.
I have not reset the unit, since as Pete confirms they come as a registered pair, and it will not allow me to access setup in any case. I have tried on my pals boat, with the same NO PILOT result, so looks like the unit is faulty and not my autohelm or wiring. Raymarine asked me to return to them, so will do tomorrow. Will update the forum shortly. Again many thanks for your good advise.
