Can somebody please advise whether it's possible to replace the RC425 chartplotter (4 scale grey) with the RC435 (colour) as a straight swap. Apologies if this is a daft question, but my knowledge of electronics is.....well......!!

Many thanks

Mike, off the top of my head I can't and judging by the lack of responses nor can anybody else. Quickest way is to call a Raymarine dealer, or go on to their website support pages. There you can either look at the product details or raise it as question for one of their techie experts to answer.

Hi Nick. Good way forward - I know the units are the same size, but not sure whether the cabling/connection needs to be different. Just a thought at the moment.

Well I'm your man, I did just that.

No. The panel cutout for the two units is slightly different, and the 425 uses an active GPS antenna whereas the 435 uses a passive unit. You need to replace the antenna and cabling.

The panel cutout for the 435 is slightly smaller (less height, width is ok), but the overall unit width is slightly larger.

I had enough panel space that it didn't matter, and I padded the screw hole centres using penny washers, so assuming you have a bit if spare dash space the 435 will fit in the 425's hole. You'll need to run new cabling though.

Make sure you have enough room to open the chart cartridge door on the lower right of the 435 (the rubber cover on the 425 is replaced by a rigid door on the 435)

Overall, minor mods and it's straight forward enough if you have the extra panel width.
