Raymarine RayControl app

It certainly looks very promising, do you know if it is it free like the viewing application or is there a charge? (the Raymarine website didn't look very clear on this).

I used their bluetooth remote control for the first time this weekend which I found very useful as my plotter can be seen from the cockpit so I can change the zoom level and carry out some of the other basic functions without leaving the wheel.

Well - it's £35 off Google Play (for androids) - can't see iPad/Phone app being any different.
They do do a "free" viewer though..

It does seem to me that the way electronics are going is "expensive" control units down below whilst "cheap"(er) display units where ever you want them..

That's good as far as I'm concerned - because I don't always control the boat from behind the wheel - so I want the display accessible from whereever I happen to be...

Raymarine

Says its compatible with the c series. Not sure how it will "talk" to the mfd on the c series. If I (as recommended)upgrade the software does it include a Wi-fi or Bluetooth transmitter?

This could be a good bit of kit for below

Thanks

I believe they're referring to the new C series. These are similar to the new E series only they don't have touch screens.

iPhones/iPads have their place; indoors.

Or in a waterproof casing ...

iPhone ... indoors .... are you NUTS?! it's a mobile ... granted it isn't waterproof - but I've used mine on the boat with no issue ... heck I was posting on here 15 miles south of the IOW last sept - on the way to the Scuttlebutt meet ...
No waterproof casing required coz there wasn't much wind or waves ...

Last year I slid into the water with my iPhone in my pocket - fortunately it was a tight pocket as it kept most of the water out - dried it out and a week later it was as right as rain .. it's still being used now...

Please do report back with your experiances.

Gave it a whirl yesterday whilst hiding away from the wind and rain. It was actually somewhat underwhelming. It just does what it says on the tin. It looks just like the RayView app however it reacts when you touch the screen. There's also a sidebar you can tap that pops out showing a simulacrum of the physical controls on the plotter.

It looks like it should work quite nicely from the cockpit. Now I'm just waiting for that Lifedge case to become available.

My only criticism of the app at this time would be the resolution of the display. Just like the RayView app, the resolution isn't amazingly high so the screen does look a little blurry. I'm guessing this is so the app doesn't have to stream as much data when in use, which would save battery too. Still, it's perfectly useable.

I have just bought an iPad for this purpose, along with an Aquapack case within which it will live when in the cockpit. The screen operates when it is in the pack.

I already had Rayview and it looks as if I will want to upgrade. This should be easier than the alternative remote controller.

PS I have just loaded it up and am all agog to try it when we set off tomorrow.

Ghosting on iPad with raymarine control app

Have just had raymarine e9.5 chart plotter and radar installed. Easy connection to iPad using the control app, but am getting a bit of 'ghosting' on the iPad screen image which makes it just look a bit blurred. Does anyone know a way of sharpening the image? I presume it is something to do withe threw wifi signalling reception. iPad is otherwise perfect and the app works really well, though not had a chance to use on the water yet.
