I reckon lots of radars are cobbled together with choc-blocks! And mostly, they work.
Lots of electrical systems are cobbled together with choc-blocks and worse, and mostly they work too. But I replaced it all on KS with new cable and proper joints, because it gives me satisfaction to know that things are done properly. Same reason I've already replaced the lighting cable (mains flex growing green and crusty) and VHF cable (so thin and with such poor braid coverage that it probably leaked 2/3rds of the power before it reached the antenna) in the new boat's mast. I'm sure they mostly worked too, but it annoys me to know that things on my boat are sub-optimal. It'll probably take three or four fairly busy winters to get her up to my standards
