Just browsing thro the post after a lovely afternoon at sea and I saw the post from Son Vida re depth sounder.. what caught my eye was he said a raymarine was going to re-set the gyro compass.

I've got a Raymarine setup and recently I've noticed that the heading (M) on the auto pilot is around 60 degerees out compared to the compass. The compass appears to be reasonably correct (the hand compass give a similar heading to the main compass)

So my question is, never having had a raymarine b4, do I need to get someone to re-set the gyro compass? What would be the likley casue of it giving a duff reading?

Thanks
rob

You can do this yourself, it's quite well explained in the manual, I seem to remember when I did this that it involved going around in a circle slowly several times whilst the auto giro calibrated itself not sure how it works but I assumed it interfaced with the gps in some way.

G'day RobMc... Sorry I can't offer any help with compass issue, but I did notice you are a charter operator out of N.E. Scotland.

I'm going to be in Inverness in a couple of weeks (family reasons) and was thinking about checking out the local boating scene, heading over to Peterhead and Frazerborough. Any ideas where else to go?

All the best

Callum
