Hi, im trying to connect up my ais to my raymarine e7 using 0183, i keep getting an issue when powering on the the plotter freezes unless the ais is disconnected, if i connect the 0183 after the plotter is switched on i can see the target but loose the chart? totally baffled atm, any ideas?

@paris, first double check that the e7 is set to receive data at the higher 38,400 baud on the NMEA input that the AIS is connected to.

If that doesn't work, assuming you are connecting both in IN (RX) and OUT (TX) from the AIS to the e7, can you try connecting only the OUT (TX) of the AIS to the IN (RX) on the e7 display? It's possible the GPS data from the AIS unit and MFD is clashing and causing data issues.

thanks for your help, all seems correct, ironically it works if i let the plotter load up and then switch on the ais. weird

Have you updated the E7 software to the highest level it can go, Lighthouse 2 v19.03? Even then the AIS software isn't very good, unlike Lighthouse 3.
