Apologies if this has been covered before, tried a search for the topic but not very successful. I have a Raymarine E7 series MFD circa 2013, up until recently it has worked perfectly, however I have recently lost the GPS signal, it has an internal GPS. Contacted Raymarine, they suggested a software update which I did, no improvement with the GPS, there next suggestion was a Raymarine repair centre. Has anyone else with the E series MFD's had the same issue and resolved it. Any help or suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks
Barry McCrae

Does it have an external antenna for the GPS? There have been several threads/posts on here with problems caused by the antenna button battery needing replacing.

No it doesn't have an external antenna, the GPS is internal on the chartplotter, I wonder if there is a button battery in the E series MFD's, perhaps will have to open it up.

Assuming you have a sea talk ng network on board a suitable external antenna would sort out the problem such as the raymarine rs150.

you could also interface another way depending on what you have onboard already!?

I would be interested to know if there is a button battery in the unit. might change mine out pre emptily if that's the case.

another thought would be the data master hasn't changed to a display downbelow (like at the chartable where there's no signal?)

Hi all, just thought you might be interested in an update on the issue with the GPS on my E7 chartplotter. After doing some research came across a blog of a motorcruiser who had stripped one of these down, documenting and photographing each stage. Also came across a Youtube video of someone opening up the mushroom type external GPS units, and replacing a small button battery to repair it. So I thought nothing to loose and opened my unit up, couldn't find any sign of a small battery. Also tried looking for what might be the GPS, looked at several components under a magnifying glass but couldn’t find the GPS. Remembered that I had a contact at Raymarine Service UK, sent him an email with the details, he promptly replied pointing me in the right direction to find the GPS, located the PCB with the GPS on it, took a photo, sent this to Raymarine who confirmed it was the correct PCB, he said the GPS looked faulty (wasn’t sure how he was able to deduce that from the photo), I asked if they had the PCB in stock which they did. A replacement was sent to me just before Xmas, arrived last Thursday and installed into the chartplotter later that day. On testing, the GPS worked perfectly – a result – however unfortunately my charts were now not showing up. Have had a further play around with the unit over the weekend, stripped it down, checked connections and now it is all working perfectly again. So if anyone else is having issues with the internal GPS on their Raymarine chartplotters it may well be possible to strip down and replace.

Hi Barry, I have same problem and wondered if you could help. Were you able to buy the PCB component from Raymarine in UK and what did it cost? I have no idea how to recognise the part so please could you share the link you talked about were the unit was dismantled. Thanks in advance, Rob

Having dealt with RM in the past and the 'pre-payment' issue before you even send anything to them ... I would consider purchase of an external GPS and plugged in to be a solution.

But good to hear OP managed to fix it.
