Many thanks for that, I tried everything to turn on the NMEA - Raymarine eventually capitulated and sold me an interface for £110.00 - (which works well) BUT if you know the secret could you spill the beans?

I think the secret is that you need to connect Seatalk as well as HSB2 to the 2 displays, this will then give you NMEA output. There's an obscure little note tucked away in the RL70C handbook which mentions under Sealtalk This connection is necessary for full functionality between hsb2 series displays. SeaTalk data, if present, is the primary source for all navigational data except heading

Seatalk is an abbreviated (binary) form of NMEA so this makes sense
