What a day I had 2 days ago. First, I discovered why my Wylie On-line almanac hung on its splash screen - one of the best bits of free software I've come across and particularly useful here in Terguier where it had the actual tides. Too good to last.
Then the next thread was about Raymarine folding - minutes after I had submitted a query to them. I've had no reply other than their promise to respond on the same business day.
So, I throw myself on the tender mercies of the forum.
On our first trip this year, I fired up the cockpit RC520 chart plotter only to find that it turned itself off just as the Caution page appeared. This happened every time. The saloon plotter an RL70 fortunately works but it has meant me doing most of my buoy hopping in the saloon instead of out in the fresh air.
I know the RC520 is obsolete - it actually uses C-Map - but does anyone know if it is fixable? Will it be a duff switch or is it more fundamental than that? And is it possible for me to do it myself or will it involve me trying to describe the problem with a Breton?

Any pointers would be most welcome.

Voltage drop

Hi,

The manual quotes "Voltage drops below10 V, and startermotor transients, can
cause the equipment to reset. This will not damage the equipment, but may
cause the loss of some information and may change the operating mode."

This same applies to most chartplotters.

Had our c120 which is at the helm turn itself off a few times earlier in the year, turned out to be a duff service battery, no other instruments were affected. Replaced 2 service batteries and has been fine ever since.
