I had to do this on my C80, same problems with cards. What I did was to use the Navionics card itself, you can create a new directory/folder in the root of the Navionics card and put the update software there. Just don't change the Navionics folder as this will mess with the licence. Then delete the update folder when finished.

I did this successfully on a C70.

.... and then proudly reported that he had "updated my software whilst [he] was at it, because I didn't have the latest version." I really wished he hadn't. From that day onwards, the screen refresh rate, if you move the cursor off the edge of the screen, slowed dramatically. As a consequence, I have deliberately avoided any further software upgrades. If it works, leave it alone in my opinion.

I delete the bp2 files after each update and find it has increased the screen speed dramatically on my c80.

There was a piece about this on the Navionics web site

I delete the bp2 files after updates and that increases the screen speed hugely on my c80

Just did that myself. Makes a radical difference - the refresh time is back to what it used to be.

I notice that there are two different "upgrades" involved here. One is the upgrading of the plotter firmware and the other is the upgrading of the Navionics chart software.

Deleting the bp2 files seems to be connected with plotter slowness after upgrading the Navionics software rather than the plotter firmware.

Yes, it happens after updating the chart, as the Navionics article says.

i don’t know why you inserted my text into a quote from DavetheDog.

The problem seems to be with your post #25, or one even earlier than that. Go to your post #25 and click "Reply with Quote" and then look at what you get in the text window. ;)

Richard

Aye - you're right! It's to do with the unclosed open-quote included a couple of posts before that, and the forum software doesn't error-check it. Thank you Richard

I'm sure that you will need to get the C80 (I assume this is a C80 Classic?) to recognise the SD card on boot up before you will be able to update.

I've updated my C80 with my Sandisk card and have loaned it to several forumites who have all upgraded without problems. If you want to PM me with your address I'll send you mine so you can try it. It has the latest firmware on it already.

Richard
Richard, do you still have the sandisk card for the c80? Im at version 4.29 of the firmware. Best Wishes. Ian

RichardS hasn't been on for a while (shame as he has a lot to contribute). Not sure if he gets notifications.
Richard certainly did have the card as he was kind enough to lend it to me to update my C80.

I have a CF card here (128MB) which I believe that I used to update my C80. It seems to have version v5.16 on it. I would be happy to post it to you, as long as you send it back on completion, in case anyone else wants to borrow it. I will try to send you a PM to exchange details, you may not be able to send/receive PM until you have made 5 posts, so get posting and in the meantime I shall try to PM you.

You are very welcome, I will wait for a reply from Ian first. It may make sense for Ian to post it to you on completion of his upgrade then you send it back to me, unless someone else joins in:)

I had this problem last year and sourced a pair of 128Mb cards from ebay, only one of which the unit recognised and it wasn't the card I thought would work. I still have both, and they have the latest C80 update on them. Happy to share if that helps. PM me if interested, though I need to collect them from the boat next weekend.
could i borrow your cf card so that i can update my c80
