Now I have been able to power up the second C80 from my boat without the Raymarine power cable (still on boat) thanks to the forum.
My problem is that the unit will not boot up at all, it only gets to the "Raymarine C Series Multifunction Navigation Display" screen (the predominantly white one)before it freezes up, for some reason I can't upload a pic of the screen just now to this post
Note I have done the factory reset thing (hold down first soft key whilst turning power on) several times and the unit counts down; 3,2,1 on the screen and then just displays the image described above, no keys are then operative, need to disconnect power to turn off, any ideas please!

Could one of the buttons be pressed down? Can happen if the facia has been removed and refitted and a button is not seated correctly. Is it running the latest software? Try powering up with the compact flash card removed. If all else fails try giving Raymarine a call. They are very helpful. Good luck.

No Buttons appear to be stuck, software - don't know but can't find out either, unless I can get it to boot up. I am trying to power it up without the CF card. I'll see what Raymarine have to say.

Have you tried powering it off, inserting a CF card with the latest software and turning it on again to see if it goes through a software update?
Details here.. http://www.raymarine.co.uk/knowledgebase/index.cfm?view=3752

Not tried that yet, but it's on my list
I'll see if I can get hold of a CF card so I can download the software myself, last time I was kindly loaned a CF card with the software on it (thanks again RichardS), also I've sent a message to Raymarine support & await their reply
Cheers

As mentioned above, if your C-series has not been updated before you need to find a very small capacity CF card ..... less than 256MB and ideally as small as 32MB .... and these are not always easy to find these days.

The phrase "hen's teeth" springs to mind. When I updated the firmware on my friend's C80 a top forumite very kindly lent me a small capacity CF card after I tried in vain for over 4 weeks to find one online.

Strange. I just googled 32mb cf card and found any number of them.

There is a restriction on the type of CF cards;
Raymarine state;
Raymarine recommends use of SanDisk brand CF memory cards having a capacity of between 32MB and 256MB
It may be a challenge to find these!

I had same problem in trying to update my E series to handle the extra capacity of the Navionics chip. I ended up borrowing the update memory card from Greenham Regis but have now managed to buy a 256MB card off e bay (completer with someones photos on it - that I wiped!!

Would not update with 2GB Scandisk card.
