My SPX10 autopilot computer has packed up and it seems that raymarine have stopped doing their repair option on this kit. (It wont read the fluxgate compass anymore, the compass is fine, and the fault has been diagnosed as the smartpilot box)). Question is what options are available that will continue to interface with all the other ST6002 stuff on the seatalk system.?
I'm thinking this must have happened to others. Thanks
Oh yes, anyone know when raymarine stopped selling the SPX10 as mine is only 8 years old .. bit miffed to say the least.

Not surprised that you're miffed. I'm amazed that they can't/won't repair it. I shaln't be buying Raymarine stuff in future if that's how it's going to be.

I had some ST50 instruments repaired by Raymarine last month (they are 20 years old) when I first enquired they were a bit sniffy and there was something about a 10 year cut off for support but when I spoke directly to their 'Out of Warranty' repair department I found them much more approachable and helpful. The number for the Department is on their website but I will edit the post when I find it. The SPX pilot was not a great success for Raymarine, I think they thought they could compete with Teleflex/ Octopus etc. who still sell their versions, sales were poor and their support has always been half hearted.
I had some dealings with a firm in Wareham (The Service Centre????) which seemed to know what they were doing.

Edit. Raymarine's Fareham workshop tel. no. 01329 246 932

I was told by a Raymarine Engineer who I know personally that the Smartpilot, which was the one before the poor and unreliable SPX, was good, on that basis I bought one 2nd hand and it has worked well. So one solution is to buy a 2nd hand Smartpilot ( available in three versions, each with or without a Gyro). You may wonder why people sell them, but the time comes for a "Refit" particularly on expensive boats, and everything is changed irrespective of whether it works. I bought the Smartpilot and four ST60 instruments and an ST6001 pilot controller and one or two other bits from just such a source - all worked perfectly well.

Have you tried this company http://www.marineelectronicservice.com/ based in wareham, dorset?

they repaired my ancient st6002 pilot a few years ago

nb. they used to do a fixed price repair that you could 'buy' on ebay

They still do. I have used them twice including a couple of months ago. If you give them a call they'll tell you whether they'll look at your item.

Here's their eBay item for chart plotter repair BTW: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Raymarine-Fixed-Price-Chart-Plotter-Repair-/230594092336
