I am in the process of upgrading the steering system on my boat and will likely install an Evolution system with a P70Rs Head. I see that it comes with a hydraulic pump for such steering systems and wonder if I need the steering system's hydraulic pump in addition or whether the Raymarine one fulfils this role even when the system is not in use.

Many thanks

I have a twin station hydraulic steering and a autopilot but not Raymarine mine i SIMRAD

I have a steering pump at each steering wheel station and a single hydraulic gear pump driven by the autopilot electronics so if the raymarine is similar you only need one pump driven by the raymarine autopilot electronics.

If you don't already have a hydraulic system you will need a special steering wheel pump as well as a cylinder to operate the rudder.

The EV 100 pilot is intended to just drive either a wheel pilot or a tubular tiller ram neither of which involves a clutch, the EV 200 and upwards will work with almost any type of drive either permanent or temporary, one of the best is Jefa, but in addition to Raymarine's range you can use nearly any drive subject to displacement limits.
As it happens, I have a complete EV200 pilot which was tried briefly with an Octopus type cable drive, the cable drive was sold but I still have the complete Raymarine ACU200 control unit, EV1 sensor core, P70Rs control head, Seatalk NG cabling kit, installation manuals, templates etc. all in 'As new' condition still in the Raymarine boxes. The price is over £400 so I can not advertise the complete system as on item on here.
Pm me if you want to know more about it.
